Premier Debating
These are the top grades in the Wellington Region. We have three premier debating grades spanning form junior to senior school. These grades are suitable for experienced debaters. All premier grades are adjudicated by university level debaters (or top secondary school debaters in the junior grade).

Premier A and B
What you need to know
Premier A and Premier B occur on alternate Tuesday evenings from 6pm to around 8pm and are for senior secondary school students only (years 11 to 13).
Format
Speaking times for substantive speeches are 5-6 minutes with points of information (POIs) between 1 and 5 minutes. POIs are a chance the the opposing team to ask the speaker a question relevant to the debate, and can be accepted or rejected by the speaker. Leaders replies are 2-3 minutes with NO POIs.
Debates will either be fully prepared with the motion given in advanced or limited preparation with three motions being given on the day and teams choose between the three and prepare for 30 minutes.

Junior Premier
What you need to know
Junior Premier occurs on the same Tuesdays as Premier A from 4:30 to 6pm.

Speaking times are 4-6 minutes with NO points of information (POIs). Leaders replies are 2-3 minutes.

Debates will either be fully prepared with the motion given in advanced, limited preparation with the motion being given on the day and the teams prepare for 30 minutes, or impromptu where teams get the side and the motion on the day and prepare for 10 minutes. Speaking times are shortened for impromptu (3-4 minute speeches with 1-2 minute replies).
